Old Tip of the Week 13

MOBILE GROUNDS

( Lets Talk About Grounding Antenna Systems On Vehicles. )

First Of All,

Adding A Wire To A Mirror Bracket Does Not Add A Ground To A Mirror Bracket.

DC Ground Is Totally Different From An RF Ground.

RF Grounding A Mirror Bracket Requires A Flat Braid Of At Least 1 Inch In Width,

Connected From The Mirror Bracket To The Frame Of The Vehicle.

This Will Only Work If You Already Have Metal Doors,

And The Mirrors Are Attached To The Doors,

And If Your SWR'S Are Somewhat Workable.

Most Of The Time If You Have Fiberglass Doors,

No Amount Of Grounding Will Help To Get Acceptable SWR'S.

Wilson Has A No-Ground Antenna System

For Mirrors That Do Not Have A Good Ground

Or Mirrors That Are Mounted On Fiberglass Doors.

A Mobile CB Antenna Needs To See As Much Metal Under It

In Order To Radiate Its Full Power.

This Is Why Mounting An Antenna In The Center Of A Roof

Is The Best Possible Place For 360 Degrees Of Radiation.

Were Talking About Transmitting And Receiving.

Mobile Antennas Require A Metal Base For Its Radiation Of RF Power.

Base Antennas Require Earth Ground For Its Radiation Of RF Power.
